A Letter from our president

Welcome to Everyone Reading Illinois!

We are working on updating our website and hope you will find it more user-friendly and filled with valuable information about dyslexia and related learning differences.

ERI is one of Illinois’ leading organizations in dyslexia awareness and education.  As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1978, we serve the entire state of Illinois and work to improve the lives of individuals with dyslexia, from childhood through adulthood.

Recent NAEP data indicates that only 34% of fourth graders in Illinois read proficiently.  The serious and heartbreaking consequences for students who fail to learn to read are well-documented: ongoing frustrations, persistent feelings of failure, a host of academic difficulties, higher high school drop-out rates, lack of college success, disproportionate numbers in prison, self-esteem issues, emotional problems, lower lifetime earnings and higher unemployment.  ERI strives to prevent reading failure by partnering with families, educators, and schools. Our mission is to address the needs of struggling readers through increased public awareness about dyslexia, high quality professional development for teachers, support for families and the promotion of effective instruction for dyslexia.

Every year, we host two conferences. Our two-day conference in the fall, Dynamics of Dyslexia, is the largest dyslexia conference in the state and features keynote speakers renowned in their respective fields and many informative, engaging breakout sessions for both parents and teachers.  Each spring, we hold a half-day conference, unique in that it’s for parents and families. Both these conferences provide the latest information regarding best practices, research, and educational strategies in the field of dyslexia and related learning disabilities.

In addition to our two major conferences, ERI provides professional development seminars, training workshops, dyslexia simulations, and panel discussions. We also advocate for legislative change, most recently emphasizing the pressing need for early dyslexia screening, identification and effective instruction. We maintain an extensive referral list of diagnosticians/tutors, and you can find recent news and upcoming events on both our Facebook page and this website.

With your support, either through membership or donations, we can continue to provide these and other important services. As a member, you will receive special discounts on workshops, conferences, and other ERI events.

When individuals with dyslexia receive the help and support they need, they can be successful in school, at work, and in their communities.  It is the goal of Everyone Reading Illinois to provide the public with the understanding and tools necessary to make the success of each one of these individuals a reality.

We encourage you to join us in this endeavor. Membership provides many benefits to you and your family as well as to the community in which we share a mutual interest.
