Our Mission:

Everyone Reading Illinois's (ERI) mission is to improve the lives of children and adults with dyslexia and related learning disabilities through high-quality professional development for teachers, increased public awareness, and support for families.

ERI promotes research-based approaches that teach reading in the way children and other individuals actually learn, deriving from the work of the late Samuel T. Orton and others. Working as partners with schools, teachers, parents, and other experts, ERI strives to eliminate educational inequities and create excellent learning opportunities for all students.

We Need your Help!

The children of Illinois cannot wait any longer! We must act now to pass House Bill 4202 (HB4202)

The students of Illinois have a right to learn to read in school. The negative consequences for children who fail to learn to read are well-documented and profound:

  • pervasive academic difficulties

  • higher high school dropout rates

  • lower lifetime earning

  • higher unemployment

  • mental health challenges

  • disproportionate imprisonment rates

HB4202 is important because it amends the school code to include early screening and effective reading intervention to address the inequity in reading instruction throughout Illinois.

WE NEED YOUR HELP to ensure that HB4202 is adopted.

Contact your legislators to garner their support for HB4202 and increase their awareness of dyslexia. Click below for a fact sheet with helpful talking points, as well as information on the virtual Legislative Town Hall meeting.

On February 28, 2022, ERI held a Town Hall Legislative Meeting. Below is the video to watch this recording.
